Challenge
The current surf retail market is highly fragmented, with many stores offering a limited online presence or outdated platforms. Customers struggle to find reliable, user-friendly websites that offer a combination of product variety, expert advice, and seamless logistics. Additionally, many independent surf brands lack the digital infrastructure to reach a broader audience, especially during off-seasons or in less urban areas.
Objective
The primary objective is to create a scalable and visually compelling e-commerce website that: Provides an intuitive shopping experience optimised for both mobile and desktop users. Integrates real-time inventory management, secure payments, and customer account features. Includes content-driven areas like surf tips, product guides, and a community blog. Supports small and sustainable surf brands by offering them a digital sales channel. Builds a loyal customer base through personalised promotions, surf forecasts, and local surf event listings.
Results
Upon launch, the online surf shop quickly demonstrated strong performance. Online sales increased by 30% within the first three months, compared to the previous retail-only model, and the platform achieved a user retention rate of 45%, thanks to its intuitive interface and personalised marketing. Over 15 niche and sustainable surf brands were successfully onboarded, enriching the product catalogue and aligning with the brand’s eco-conscious mission. Users praised the website’s design, speed, and mobile responsiveness, reflected in a high Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 72. Additionally, the site’s content-driven approach, including surf tips and community blog posts, helped attract over 2,000 monthly readers, contributing to organic traffic growth and brand loyalty.
